Tips for Contacting Swedish Landlords

When you have purchased the search service your home search really takes off. You can contact the landlords either by using our chat tool or by emailing them (contact info is at the bottom of the ads you are a match to). If you use the chat tool, you can save a ton of time. Simply click on My Pages-Settings-A Standard Text About Yourself and add your intro letter. Then every time you start a chat, this section populates in the chat window and then you can edit and tweak for each property if you wish.

So, how do you make a good impression and introduction of yourself to a landlord in Sweden?

Our advice is to sell yourself a bit, be honest and thorough. We have seen introductory e-mails to landlords that have been less successful and others that have been very successful navigating our market.

Here is an example of a less successful introductory e-mail to a landlord:

"hey, im john and i want to rent your place." Well, this is a sloppy presentation. For one, if you are too lazy to use a capital letter on your own name, chances are that you may not be a tidy tenant. Furthermore, it is kind of hard to take someone seriously that says "i want to rent your place" when we have not spoken nor have you seen it. Very few landlords responded to this introductory e-mail.

So, how do you dazzle and grab someone's interest in you as a potential tenant?

In your profile under settings you can write and save your introduction. This will be copied automatically into your chat messages within our portal in order to save you time. Spend some time and write a good, pleasant and thorough introduction. Here is an example of a successful tenant whom found a wonderful home for his stay in Sweden: "Hi, my name is John Doe and I will be moving to Stockholm in November due to the relocation of my position at company XYZ. I am looking forward to my new position as Nordic MD and here is a link to my LinkedIn profile if you want to know more about me. My family will be joining me in Sweden and our family unit is my wife Helen and our two children Sarah and James (ages 4 and 6 years old). I think your house looks really interesting and I would love to connect with you to learn more and to schedule a time for us to see the house. I am looking forward to hearing from you and don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions. Best Regards, John". It is of value to present what company you work for and that they will sign the lease IF you have a corporate service with us. However, if you have registered as a private searcher, you may not offer your company as a signer on the lease unless you convert your membership to a corporate one.

A good general rule of thumb is to present the information that you would like to know about a potential tenant if you were renting out your home.
